AZ Joins Several States as Pioneers of New Solutions for Dyslexia

STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX– Representative Jill Norgaard (R-18) today applauded theArizona Department of Education (ADE)for releasing theDyslexia handbook, a new resource for parents and teachers to identify and support students with dyslexia.
This handbook is a result ofHB 2202, legislation sponsored by Rep. Norgaard that received overwhelming bipartisan support at the Arizona Legislature and tremendous acclaim fromeducation groups, educators, and parents across the state.
“This dyslexia handbook represents a giant leap toward closing the achievement gap forArizona students by increasing the resources available for families and teachers to decodedyslexia,”

said Representative Norgaard.

“I am grateful to be part of such a dedicated teamover the past nine months to assemble this handbook, and I look forward to eventuallyworking toward a pilot program to have Arizona become the first state to decode dyslexiain preschool.”
This handbook was established through the Arizona Department of Education and created underthe supervision of the State Board of Education. It will provide guidelines for parents andteachers to identify dyslexia, educational strategies to improve academic performance of studentswith dyslexia, and available services and resources to students with dyslexia.
