Rep. Syms’ Victims’ Rights Bill Signed Into Law

STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX– Representative Maria Syms (R-28) today thanked GovernorDucey for signingHB 2269into law.
The bill modernizes the information and notifications given to victims of crimes. It also addsimportant privacy protections for minor victims and prohibits offenders from collecting from anycivil action against the state until full restitution has been paid to the victims and incarcerationcosts have been paid to the state.
“Too often, the legal process can put so much attention on punishing criminal offendersthat it neglects the rights of victims of crime,”

said Representative Syms.

“HB 2269strengthens victims’ rights by making them a priority in the criminal justice process andhelping to restore the dignity they deserve.”
“I thank my colleagues for recognizing the value of this legislation and thank GovernorDucey for signing it into law.”
HB 2269 passed out of both the House of Representatives and the Senate unanimously.
