Add Me to the List

I just saw this entry from the July 18 Yellow Sheet.  It’s a reference to Hiral Tipirneni running against David Schweikert.

The only Republicans who don’t think there’s anything to worry about seem to be the congressman himself and his consultant, Chris Baker.

Ha, the list of Republicans who think that Schweikert doesn’t have anything to worry about is a lot longer than, say, the YS subscriber list.  Hmm, that’s actually a pretty small number, so that’s not a good example.  It’s longer than the Cap Times subscriber list…D’oh, same problem.  OK, it’s longer than the number of people who subscribe to azcentral.  Still pretty small, but getting closer.

You can add me to the list.  I’ll go even further and predict that Tipirneni loses to Anita Malik in the Democratic Primary.  Malik then goes on to lose to Schweikert by double digits.

Check out how the YS describes Tipirneni:

Tipirneni, who previously ran unsuccessfully in the special and general election against Lesko in CD8 last year, switched congressional districts, even though she does not technically live in CD6.

It’s fun to watch reporters go to bat for candidates.  I don’t think that they even catch it–which is why it’s called “bias” and not straight up “advocacy.”

Let’s see if we can fix it.  Instead of the rather unwieldy “ran unsuccessfully in the special and general election against Lesko”

How about “lost to Lesko twice.”

What do you think of this construction: “she does not technically live in CD6.”

Hmm, I’m seeing a weasel word in there.  How about skipping the advocacy and stating the fact “she does not live in CD6″.

Reporters will then respond that she lives “a stone’s throw from the district.” Or, She lives “a short par four” from the district.  Or maybe she can see the district from her front porch.  They all mean the same thing.  She lives outside the district.

Tipirneni lost to Lesko twice and now is running against Schweikert in District 6 even though she still lives in District 8.  Got it.

I will disagree with one point that Chris Baker made.  Baker said that Schweikert would be happy to make Tipirneni a three time loser.  I don’t think David will have that opportunity.  Anita Malik will have the pleasure of making Tipirneni a three time loser.

Then Schweikert will have the pleasure of making Malik a two time loser.
