Steve Bannon gins up Alabama crowd for Roy Moore

There’s no question SRAZ has intelligent readers. That’s evident by the high level of comments our posts receive.  But following this unwieldy saga takes more than brainpower. It requires an elevated degree of concentration and commitment to following its twists and turns.. Here‘s the condensed version:

President Trump’s appointment of Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions as United States Attorney General left a senate vacancy.  Luther Strange, the state’s Attorney General was appointed to fill the seat by former Gov. Robert Bentley. But wouldn’t you know? Bentley was under investigation by Strange’s office for his involvement in a sex scandal. Bentley resigned after appointing Strange, Mitch McConnell’s establishment candidate — none of which passes the smell test.

A three way GOP primary followed  in August, Conservative former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore was the top vote getter. He and Strange are competing in a runoff today. The victor will face Democrat Doug Jones in a December special election.

But wait.  There’s more.

Last week President Trump entered the fray, traveling to Alabama to endorse Luther Strange, declaring Roy Moore can’t win the General Election. To ensure that prediction, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has been pouring $millions into negative advertising against Moore through PACs with which he’s aligned, notably the Senate Leadership Fund super PAC and the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

McConnell wants to retain his leadership post and he’s counting on Strange’s vote to make that a reality. Conservatives are rightfully dissatisfied with both McConnell and House Speaker Paul Ryan, who lead GOP majorities in their respective chambers and yet have fallen far short of expectations.

Moore has said he would “defeat this Washington elitist crowd,” a direct job at McConnell.

Monday night former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon brought down the barn in which he was speaking on behalf of Roy Moore, declaring war on the GOP establishment and telling the crowd that the D.C. elites behind Strange’s campaign regard Alabama voters as “a pack of morons. They think you’re nothing but rubes. They have no interest at all in what you have to say, what you have to think or what you want to do. And tomorrow, you’re gonna get an opportunity to tell them what you think of the elites who run this country!”

Bannon made it clear he was not chastising the president, stating that it was Moore, not Strange, who would do the most to back the Trump agenda.

Tonight’s  election results  will tell whether the establishment syndicate or the conservative base have their fingers on the pulse of Alabama Republicans. Polls close in Alabama at 7 PM. — 5 PM AZ time. Alabama’s Moore,Strange election saga — results here & Update
