AZ SOS race: Gaynor poised to defeat incumbent Reagan

Posted by on | July 19, 2018 | No Comments

According to the latest Data Orbital voter survey, Arizona’s incumbent Secretary of State Michele Reagan is not faring well against political newcomer Steve GaynorIn fact, they are in a virtual tie with Reagan polling at 26.37% and Gaynor at 26.40%. The uncertain factor hinges on the 45.5% who remained undecided at the time the poling was conducted.  Gaynor is boldly challenging Reagan with a televised ad campaign depicting her as a flawed public official, responsible for the past election day chaos that had voters standing in line for hours to cast their ballots.

Reagan previously took heat for failing to send informative publicity pamphlets to an estimated 200,000 households in advance of the May 17, 2016 special election, as required by law. The Secretary of State’s website has experienced numerous problems since she took office.

Election day snafus were  effective arguments in removing longtime Maricopa County Recorder Helen Purcell from office during the 2016 election cycle. She had won accolades for her administration of county elections for 28 years. Reagan’s tenure has been rocky from the start.

A longtime Arizona businessman, Gaynor is self funding his campaign. Never previously active in Republican politics, he is a clean slate candidate, with no track record to examine, as he seeks what sounds like a paper shuffling office, but is actually next in line of succession to the governor.

Reagan, a squish Republican, previously represented Legislative District 8 in the state legislature. During 2011, she made SRAZ’s notorious list of Arizona’s Benedict Arnolds for voting in opposition to five bills that addressed the continued invasion of our state by illegal aliens

Her current reelection campaign donor list is rife with lobbyists and establishment contributors. As of the July 12, 2018 filing period, a worried Reagan has put $73,600 of her own money into the race.

Steve Gaynor is unknown politically, but has been a successful Arizona businessman for nearly four decades. SRAZ supports his candidacy. The status quo is unacceptable.
