CD 8 Special Election candidates strut their stuff

Conservative District not lacking candidates  — but not all are conservative

The 2018 Congressional District 8 Special Election to fill the West Valley congressional seat left vacant by U.S. Rep. Trent Franks’ resignation is almost upon us. The Primary Election for the seat will be held Feb. 27, and the General Election takes place April 24, 2018.

Primary and  General Election Information can be found here. With a full slate of aspirants in this race, it likely won’t be a cakewalk for anyone so pay attention and make your vote matter. The retread Fido-type who runs for anything is back. Someday Claire Van Steenwyk might even catch a car. It’s doubtful he’s going to go to D.C.

There is a skirmish brewing between former state Sen. Steve Montenegro and former Graham County Sheriff Richard Mack, who is calling into question Montenegro’s view on the national popular vote. Montenegro, endorsed by popular conservative Franks, vigorously denies the charge.

Former state Sen. Debbie Lesko was Senate President prior to entering this race.  Phil Lovas, an early Trump supporter, appointed to fill a legislative vacancy, left that post to run. Former Corporation Commissioner Bob Stump has been endorsed by conservative U.S. Rep. Paul Gosar.

It’s a crowded field with 13 Republicans (one of whom has already withdrawn) and 3 Democrats.

Chad Allen  (touts co-endorsement with far left Democrat on liberal blog)

Kevin Cavanaugh (withdrawn)

Brenden Dilley

Stephen Dolgos (website “coming soon,” but with a donate page )

David Lien

Debbie Lesko

Phil Lovas

Richard Mack

Steve Montenegro

Bob Stump

Clair Van Steenwyk (ego driven, perpetual candidate promotes his online radio show)

Christopher Sylvester (support for border wall hinges on entire population of CD8 demanding it)

Mark Yates

SRAZ has omitted the links to those we deem non-viable candidates, lacking any significant prior Republican party involvement or conservative credentials.
