AZ Republic reporters engage in foolishness, misuse of English language

Our Friday post was titled, “AZ Republic engages in more liberal lunacy.” We have to admit our timing was off with that posting. The same day online edition of the newspaper, which we missed, headlines this inane question:

“It has been one year since Sen. John McCain’s brain cancer was discovered. What’s next?”

The accompanying article, calling the July 2017 dire diagnosis “a mysterious — and complicated — milestone,” required the combined efforts of two reporters.

A separate report marking the year the Republic irrationally and repeatedly refers to as a “milestone,” details Cindy McCain expressing gratitude to her husband’s caregivers.

The term milestone marks an achievement. Having Mayo Clinic neurosurgeons give the life-altering diagnosis of glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer, is a ridiculous misuse of the word. McCain has been diagnosed with the same horrendous disease that took the lives of his friend Ted Kennedy and Joe Biden’s son, Beau.

SRAZ’s policy has advanced to not including direct links to items in the failing disseminator of foolishness. But our readers are a knowledgeable group, continually demonstrating common sense with cogent comments. For that reason, we’re giving you the opportunity to answer the question. “What’s next?”
