 With gratitude…Memorial Day 2017

Sharing in a longstanding tradition of paying tribute to those who lost their lives fighting for freedom,  more than 5,000 Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts placed American flags on the graves of over 88,000 veterans Saturday morning. The flag placement preceded other commemorative events which took place at the Los Angeles National Cemetery.

The scouts are made aware that their freedom is maintained by the dedication and sacrifices of others. As they approach each grave, the scouts read the name of the veteran aloud, places an American flag in the ground, observes a brief moment of silence….and salutes each fallen patriot.  Within an hour, the entire cemetery is decorated with thousands of American flags. Most importantly, the lesson of gratitude and the knowledge that freedom isn’t free, will stay with these young scouts throughout their lives.

The flags will remain in place until Tuesday, when the scouts will return to retrieve them and place them in storage for use next year.

On this Memorial Day, e invite you to listen to this moving rendition ofTaps played by the U.S. Marine Band.
